Position title: Art Director

Job location: Copenhagen, Denmark

General Functions:

  • Strategize, build and maintain a strong visual brand identity and aesthetic across print and digital channels
  • Brainstorm, research and develop visual formats, feature ideas, mood boards and style guides
  • Work collaboratively with key Kinfolk staff including the Brand Director, Publishing Director, editors, copy editors and contributors
  • Source, maintain and guide an ever-evolving stable of contributors to ensure that content is ahead of the curve, on-brand and of a consistently high standard
  • Brief, commission and work with photographers, stylists and illustrators to develop content in all stages of the creative process, from concepts to final print proofs
  • Conceptualize and produce photo shoots, including leading casting, location scouting, styling and post-production
  • Manage and maintain art budgets, schedules, production timing and flat plans
  • Work with the core team on marketing initiatives and handle PR inquires
  • Remain well informed about the general media landscape, the photography industry and the latest creative talent

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3-4 years of professional experience as the lead creative in a lifestyle media, visual arts or fashion industry
  • Strong visual portfolio and an ability to consistently generate inspired/unexpected visual ideas
  • Comfortable sharing ideas/creative license with staff and contractors
  • Able to clearly illustrate ideas and nurture the creative process from genesis to delivery
  • Strong existing network and relationships with creative talent and agencies
  • Experience with photography, creative production, design techniques, tools and principles
  • Working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
  • Experience overseeing post-production, pre-press and press including retouching, color-correction and file delivery
  • Proven ability to manage and own large-scale projects and to meet budgets and deadlines
  • Outstanding communication skills with an emphasis on efficiency, clarity and empathy

General Functions:

  • Assist with existing and new Kinfolk projects, including editorial management, strategic planning and content development

  • Brief, commission and manage freelance writers and copy-editors
  • Manage and maintain editorial flat plans, schedules, production and budgets
  • Brainstorm, research and write clear, on-brand copy across various print and digital projects including articles, interviews and essays
  • Write and edit marketing material for publishing projects including website and social media copy
  • Write and edit copy for client services projects including advertising campaigns
  • Line-edit and fact-check copy


Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3-4 years of professional experience working within an editorial team in a print or digital field 

  • Strong writing portfolio and a great sense for strong, innovative stories 

  • Experience with both line-editing and fact-checking stories
  • Experience with InDesign 

  • Outstanding organizational skills and written communication, as this role will be a bridge between the editorial teams in the United States and Denmark 

  • Previous experience in marketing and social media management is considered an advantage 

  • Strong copy editing experience working with American AP Style is considered an advantage

General Functions:

  • Lead the design of editorial and client projects from briefing to final delivery 
  • Work with the Kinfolk team and with clients to create designs for print editorial, packaging, websites, social media, product identities, events, and promotional materials including presentations and media kits.
  • Design concise, on-brand pitch and presentation documents for clients. Design concise creative briefs for contributors and production teams 
  • Commission artwork (photography, illustration, etc.)
  • Maintain a tight visual identity across print, web and mobile reading platforms
  • Formulate and present a wide variety of design concepts to the Kinfolk team
  • Develop new contacts with photographers, designers and illustrators
  • Successfully manage all external vendors when needed (printers, file prep, production, proofing)

  • 2-4 years professional experience as a Graphic Designer or similar

Kinfolk offers an educational training and work experience program that will expose the student to all aspects of the publishing industry and agency world (administrative, production, editorial, design, print, marketing, etc.), and encompasses activities designed to enrich the student with valuable skills transferable to the student's future career. Discipline-specific internships are offered (Communication / Graphic Design / Journalism / Web development / Marketing / Sales / PR / Fashion), although we do not always have openings for each department.

The Student Intern program in Copenhagen is part-time (20-30 hours per week) and temporary for 2-4 month terms (or length that aligns with university's internship track timeframe). This is an unpaid intern position eligible for school credits with proper coordination by the intern with their educational institution. Length of the internship is negotiable depending on availability of the intern and available openings at Kinfolk.

Marketing/Business Intern Duties:

  • Learns the operation and flow of information by receiving and distributing communications related to partnership requests and distribution related queries
  • Assists with chasing overdue balances, reconciling expenses, basic accounting assistance
  • Researches and implements strategies in E-commerce management, fulfillment logistics
  • Enhances organization's reputation by accomplishing new and different requests and assigned projects; explores opportunities to add value to the organization
  • Assists with setting up new wholesale accounts; Responds to general inquiries related to wholesale
  • Helps map/forecast/implement marketing strategies for new projects 
  • Creates systems/processes for fulfilling and managing E-commerce orders
  • Provides general support for business team (operations, logistics, accounting)

Collections Intern Duties:
  • Creates and updates Ouur Collection overviews
  • Compiles collection references and research within the chosen season concept
  • Assists with production for seasonal campaign and look book photo shoots
  • Participates in fitting and prototype meetings

  • Maintains an understanding and awareness of current trends and forecasts
  • Transcribes detailed changes and edits requested for each style during sample checks
  • On set: styling assistance, errands, meals, steaming, etc.


Desired skills for all categories: Adept verbal and written communication, dependability, attention to detail, writing skills, proficiency in Excel, familiarity with InDesign and Photoshop a plus
